When does the Champions League 2024 – 2025 start?

The new football season is fast approaching, and Europe’s premier teams will be getting ready for the 2024/25 Champions League.

The biggest prize in club football is almost upon us and here we’ll look at the upcoming tournament.

Key Dates for the Champions League 2024 – 2025

  • Draw for League Stages – August 29
  • League Stages – September 17
  • Knockout Round of 16 – March 4
  • Quarter Finals – April 8
  • Semi Finals – April 29
  • Final – May 31

Group Stage Draw

The draw for me the group stages is set to take place on August 29.

Then, the teams in the Champions League will learn their fate and find out who they’ll be playing in the new league format.

Group Stage Kick-off

The group stages kick off on September 17 as Europe’s best teams go at it hoping that they’ll still be involved in the latter stages.

The group stages can throw together some interesting scenarios and with more games being played this year, it’ll be fascinating to see who can last the pace.

Changes and Updates for the 2024 – 2025 Season

The biggest change this coming season is the new format as 36 teams will play in one league with each side playing eight fixtures rather than six which was the previous match allocation.

The top eight sides will all qualify for the last 16. The teams ranked nine to 24 will then meet in a play-off round with the winning teams also making it through to the last 16.

The competition will then become straight knockout all the way to the final.

Key Teams and Players to Watch

Once again, everybody will be watching Real Madrid to see whether they can defend their crown.

The Spanish giants are set to have Kylian Mbappe in their ranks next season and his inclusion will make Madrid huge favourites for glory.

Trying to stop them will be Bayern Munich who’ll be hoping Vincent Kompany can make an immediate impact in Germany.

Manchester City will also be strong contenders as they look to replicate their domestic form on the continental stage.

How will Liverpool fare under Arne Slot? His predecessor, Jurgen Klopp, made it to three Champions League finals so Slot will have big boots to fill.
